Sean Hogan has been involved in horticulture since about 18 months of age and seriously since the age of three. He served as horticulturist at the UC Botanical Garden at Berkeley and is now owner of Cistus Design and Nursery, specializing in plants from all over the world, especially western natives, and designing public and private gardens on the West Coast and beyond. Sean is the author of Flora: A Gardener’s Encyclopedia and Trees for All Seasons: Broadleaf Evergreens for Temperate Climates, both from Timber Press.


Neil Bell

Neil Bell is a horticulturist with the Oregon State University Extension Service in Marion and Polk Counties, where he oversees the Master Gardener program. He researches the hardiness of woody plants for western Oregon with a particular interest in evergreen and mediterranean climate genera.


Lee Neff

Lee Neff is a garden writer and occasional contributor to Pacific Horticulture. She lives and gardens in Kingston, Washington, where she is active with the Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club and the Northwest Horticultural Society. Her husband John M Neff, MD, is director of the Center for Children with Special Needs at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Both Lee and John have been enthusiastic supporters of the Seattle Children’s PlayGarden.


Kathy Musial

Kathy Musial is curator of living collections at the Huntington Botanical Gardens where she has worked for more than twenty-five years. She serves on the board of directors of Pacific Horticultural Society, leads tours for the Society, and is a collaborator on the soon-to-be-published Conifers around the World.


Mary Wilbur

Mary Wilbur, a native of Wales, worked in the field of psychiatric care, and has gardened in England and New York. She is now active with the Greater Trinidad Garden Club in Trinidad, California, where she has lived and gardened for more than a decade.
