Leach Botanical Garden is a valuable greenspace for the surrounding diverse, urban community. The garden features a thriving collection of over 2,000 hybrids, cultivars, and native and non-native plants, including alpines, medicinal herbs, rock garden plants, camellias, spring ephemerals, and a large collection of ferns. Visitors can take a self-guided tour that winds among Doug-firs, shrubs, and wildflowers, and along the free-flowing creek that runs through the garden.

Where do you find Inspiration?
Everything we do is anchored by what we can do to support our community as a horticultural and community resource
What is something surprising about your history?
Starting from an inauspicious beginning as a 4.17 acre pig farm back in 1932, we now have almost 17 acres of greenspace with inviting, lovely trails at every juncture, featuring woodland plantings, a four season pollinator garden, a basalt stone sculptural installation, an aerial tree walk, and more.
What are you most proud of?
The deep and enriching partnerships we’ve created with a diverse group of partners in the community to help teach about ecological restoration work
What educational resources do you share?
The garden is an exceptional site for hands-on learning and we work with many local, non-profit organizations to bring workshops and trainings to the garden, including environmental career internships for BIPOC youth. The garden hosts over 150 students each year (averaging 13 hours per student) in learning about riparian areas, stream ecology, invasive plant removal, native plants, and more. In addition, the garden has public programming and guided tours to introduce people to the garden and enrich their connection to the natural world.
