Gifts of Appreciated Securities
Support Pacific Horticulture by making a gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds. A gift of appreciated securities provides an immediate charitable deduction for the full market value of the stock. You receive credit and an immediate tax deduction for the fair market value of your stock gift on the date it was transferred to Pacific Horticulture and pay no capital gains tax on the donated stock.
Remember PHS in Your Will
Continue your horticultural legacy well into the future by naming PHS as a beneficiary in your will, trust, or retirement account. Such bequests are typically a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate and, like any will provision, can be changed at any time.
You can name the Pacific Horticulture as a beneficiary in your will or living trust to ensure a lasting gift to the society and its programs. When including PHS in your will, we recommend that you consider the following language:
“I (We) give, devise, and bequeath to Pacific Horticulture, at P.O. Box 5995 Berkeley, CA 94705, tax ID number 94-1684498, (a percentage of your estate, a specific dollar amount, or a specific piece of property) for its general use and purpose.”
You can arrange for this type of bequest when you create your will or living trust, or do so later by adding a one paragraph codicil to an existing will or trust. We recommend that you use an attorney to draft or revise your will or codicil.
You can also name Pacific Horticulture as a beneficiary of a life insurance policy, or a retirement account such as an IRA, pension, 401(k) or 403(b) plan.
We have created the Evergreen Society to honor bequests and thank those who have informed us that they have included PHS in their wills. If you wish to become a member of the Evergreen Society, please notify us in writing of your intent to include us in your estate plans. You may also wish to remain anonymous.
Thank you for your support of Pacific Horticulture.
