E. Kirsten Honeyman, a clinical psychologist, includes gardening, writing, and photography among her avocations. She and her husband Bruce garden in Fresno and in Carmel Valley, California.

Carol and Barrie Coate are a dynamic husband and wife team of horticulturists. Barrie worked for many years for the Saratoga Horticultural Research Foundation and is now a highly respected arborist in private practice. Carol continues to serve on the board of directors of the Foundation. Together, they have created a stunning garden in the mountains southwest of San Jose, California.

Kristan Johnson enjoys teaching folks how to grow their own fruits, nuts, and berries through lectures and classes. He has designed and built both public parks and private gardens in the Northwest for over forty years, incorporating elements of edible landscaping, permaculture, and wheelchair accessibility. He recently retired as president of WWFRF.

Robert Lane is an active professor emeritus of medical entomology in the Department of Environmental Science, Policy and Management at UC Berkeley. He has been studying the biology of ticks, and the ecology, epidemiology and prevention of tick-borne disease agents in California for many years.

Natalia Fedorova is a member of Robert Lane’s laboratory and is a graduate of St Petersburg State University in Russia. She currently is conducting molecular epidemiological studies of tick-borne disease agents, especially Lyme disease spirochetes.

Robert D Berka is working on a biography of Luther Burbank. A Stanford journalism graduate more years ago than he would like to remember, he volunteers at Filoli, gardens in Menlo Park, and has long been active in the California Native Plant Society.

Jason Dewees works as horticulturist at Flora Grubb Gardens (www.FloraGrubb.com) in San Francisco. He also serves as a horticultural advisor to clients ranging from the San Francisco Botanical Garden and Conservatory of Flowers to landscape architects and home gardeners. Jason is working on a book for Timber Press entitled Design With Palms.

Lisa Lee Benjamin perseveres in her worldwide pursuit to generate environments that unite people, art, and science. Consulting and collaborating on a wide variety of projects, she has inspired sustainable solutions for diverse animal and human habitats; including insect commentary, food geography, green roofs and public gardens. Her current focus is foundational change and education. Lisa is co-author of The Professional Design Guide to Green Roofs (Timber Press 2013) and a founding member of many initiatives including Urban Hedgerow, Green Roof Alliance, Alpine Initiatives and UG LAB
