The Restoration of the Gardens at Alcatraz

Join us for this special talk by Shelagh Fritz, the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy’s horticulturist and program manager at the Gardens of Alcatraz. Shelagh began working as the first paid horticulturist on Alcatraz in 2006. As the gardens’ program manager since 2009, she has been a driving force in the reclamation, interpretation, and renewal of this surprising and unexpected historic landscape. Shelagh will share the island’s rich garden history and the preservation work that has saved the plants and the stories of the people who tended them.
