Shakespeare’s Theater and Plants

Flora abounds in Shakespeare’s texts. Teachers from Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum will explore this horticulture connection in a six-session program aimed at young people ages 9-15. Each week will focus on different plant references in Shakespeare’s works. Participants will learn about the plants as they existed in Shakespeare’s time and today. Once they are familiar with the plant and the cultural impact Shakespeare was alluding to, they will be given speeches from the Bard’s plays to work on that include references to those plants. For the final class, each student will choose a favorite speech to polish and present in a short sharing session open to family and friends.
