Spend the day turning your garden dreams into a reality! Join horticulturist for the Garden’s Australasian and California collection, Clare Al-Witri for a garden design workshop utilizing perennials. Come with an idea for a garden design project and create your own concept design collage to work through design challenges and ideas on paper before breaking ground. You’ll study concepts of garden design, such as contrasting foliage, negative space, repetition, color and more, that can be applied in your home garden, whatever the scale. After a classroom presentation, we’ll tour the UC Botanical Garden to learn about design concepts in action and find inspiration for our own designs. After lunch (BYO) you’ll use the morning’s foundation to create your own concept design for a garden plan with collage, and converse with fellow garden designers and receive expert advise and critique from the instructor.
