Opening this summer, the Presidio debuts 14-acres of new gardens over a freeway at the Tunnel Tops. You are invited to experience them from an insider’s perspective. The Presidio models for us how cities can integrate human infrastructure and livability to include health and access to nature, while conserving and restoring natural spaces that are sensitive to the ecology and habitat. To understand how the Tunnel Tops landscapes rose from a social, historical, and ecological context, we will take a very special journey.

With plenty of time for refreshments and socializing, our gathering will consist of a gently meandering three-hour conversation and tour with designers and stewards of this truly unique national park site. We begin where humans first shaped this land, at the Crissy Field shell mound. We will pass through key moments of natural and human history, from tended gardens to unearthed creeks, native plant restorations, and layered buffers between riparian marsh and human placemaking. We will conclude with a social hour for new friends among food truck delicacies at the Tunnel Tops.

Snacks will be provided at the welcome point. Participants should expect a moderate amount of walking and should be prepared to walk up to three hours, climb stairs, and tolerate periods of standing.

Food truck purchases are not included in the ticket price.

Attendees will receive an email with all details, including location, exact timing, and itinerary.
