Gen(i)us Program: “Clematis Viticella Group” with Linda Beutler & Maurice Horn

Genus geniuses Linda Beutler and Maurice Horn, will present their third lecture in the Clematis series.  The focus of this talk will be the species, Viticella, and its many cultivars.

Linda Beutler, for many years a professional florist, is a Vice President of the International Clematis Society and a founding member of Friends of the Rogerson Clematis Collection  She serves as the Collection’s first curator.  She is also an instructor of horticulture at Clackamas Community College, and is a frequent lecturer, a regular contributor to periodicals including Fine Gardening and Pacific Horticulture, and the author of two Timber Press titles, Gardening with Clematis: Design and Cultivation (2004) and Garden to Vase (2007).

Maurice Horn is co-founder and co-owner of Joy Creek Nursery in Scappoose, Oregon, featuring a wide variety of ornamental plants.  He has imported, grown and sold rareclematis from Japan and other parts of the world for two decades, and he is a longtime member of the International Clematis Society, serving on the society’s council.  Maurice actively hybridizes new clematis forms – and other plants – at his nursery.  He is a longtime participant of the Great Plant Picks selection committee, and a contributor to Horticulture, Pacific Horticulture, The International Clematis Society Journal, The British Clematis Society Journal, and an Illustrated Encyclopedia of Clematis.
