Filoli Centennial-A Night at the Opera

The Bourns and the Roths entertained their guests in Filoli’s spectacular Ballroom, featuring cultural events such as concerts, as well as balls and parties. This year as we celebrate Filoli’s Centennial, you can experience magical evenings in The Ballroom with entertainment the Bourns would have enjoyed a hundred years ago: silent films accompanied by a pianist, chamber music, and opera.

The singers of First Street Opera will fill The Ballroom with a selection of pieces both the Bourns and Roths, as longtime supporters of the opera, would have enjoyed. Did you know that Mr. Bourn was one of the first to buy box seats in an opera house that had not yet been built, that Mrs. Bourn was an accomplished classical pianist, and that Mrs. Roth was classically trained in Europe to sing opera?
