Symphony of the Soil

Articles: Symphony of the Soil

Symphony of the Soil is an artistic look at what has been described as the living surface and ecstatic skin of the earth. Written, directed and produced by California-resident Deborah Koons Garcia, director of The Future of Food, this new documentary values and extols the role and power of truly fertile soil on our planet.

From December 5-12, 2014, to mark the beginning of 2015: International Year of Soils, stream Symphony of the Soil from this website.

Meanwhile, browse these “Grace Notes” —clips and out takes from the film they couldn’t leave on the cutting room floor. Sort of like little love letters to soil. I especially appreciated the brief 2 minute interview with Dr. Kate Scow, Professor of Soil Science and Microbial Ecology Department of Land, Air and Water Resources, University of California at Davis, as she talks about “giving her heart to soil.”
