Pacific Horticulture respects the privacy rights of individuals accessing our website. The information below states exactly what kind of information we gather from you, and how we use it.
Gathering information from you
We gather information from you in two ways. If you choose to subscribe to our magazine, make a donation to the Pacific Horticultural Foundation, or register for a program or event we may sponsor, we may collect Personally Identifiable Information from you. This Personally Identifiable Information may include your name, address, email address, billing information, phone number and other personal information.
We don’t knowingly collect or solicit Personally Identifiable Information from or about children under 13, except as permitted by law. We also delete any such information immediately if we discover that we have received such.
We also gather anonymous information automatically through the use of web-based tools. We may collect information such as the type of browser you use, your operating system, your IP address, and the domain name of your Internet Service Provider. This information, by itself, does not permit individual identification, meaning that you will remain anonymous.
We may use cookie technology to collect some of this data. A “cookie” is a small removable data file sent to your computer, that contains absolutely no personal information. If you wish, you can set your browser to accept no cookies, or tell it to erase all cookies at the end of a session. If you do not accept cookies, some website functionality may be lost.
What we do with the information we collect
We collect aggregated information (that does not personally identify you) in several ways. For example, compiled page statistics may tell us which pages are visited most often or which features attract the most interest. This helps us provide more content of a similar nature.
Aggregated information may occasionally be shared with our advertisers, annual business reports, or included in grant applications for funds to provide specific educational programs. Please note that aggregated information does not include any Personally Identifiable Information about you or allow anyone to identify you individually.
Personally Identifiable Information collected by Pacific Horticulture may also be used to communicate with you to complete transactions such as subscriptions, donations, or event registrations. Certain third parties who provide technical support for the operation of our site (our web hosting service, for example) may access such information. We will use your information only as permitted by law.
If you subscribe to Pacific Horticulture magazine through this website, some of your Personally Identifiable Information will reside in our subscription database. From time to time, we do a one-time-only swapping of subscription lists with other horticultural societies or high-quality nurseries or garden suppliers. During the subscription process, you have the option to opt out of such “swaps.”
If you make a donation to the Pacific Horticultural Foundation through this website, you are given the option to keep your donation anonymous. If do not choose this option, your record of giving may be published in an annual report.
Credit card transactions
Your credit card information is transferred to Pacific Horticulture by our hosting facility through the use of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, which encrypts the data to prevent its unauthorized disclosure.
Once your transaction has been processed your credit card number is discarded. Our system does not retain or store credit card numbers, expiration dates, or card security codes. However, we do retain the last four digits of the card number in order to better match card transactions with orders we receive.
Please note that all sales are final. This includes magazine subscriptions, renewal subscriptions, gift subscriptions, and purchases of individual back issues.
